Whiskey Town Lake west of Redding

I am living in Longview, Texas where I’m on a sabbatical (year-long rest) from church ministry. I will be finishing my Master’s degree soon but just not sure where I will be finishing it up at right now. I am a Marine Corps veteran, a former business owner, and a former sinner. My passion is learning to live as a child of God and sharing it with others. My first book, Combat Ready, published by WestBow Press on Oct. 26, 2012, is a ministry to veterans and active duty to show them they are uniquely qualified to be Christians. I will soon start working on a fiction series related to the book and a companion devotional. For more information be sure to check out my web site: www.combatreadybook.com

~What to expect here~

I am going to have 3 different types of posts here, possibly 4. My goal is to have 2 posts per week, but I can’t really promise that. It’s really easy for my schedule to become overloaded. My goal is to have a post on Monday and Wednesday. Monday posts will be about my new devotional book and the Wednesday posts will be Bible related. With that being said, here are the 4 categories of posts you can expect here:

Scripture of the Day

In this category I will talk about one specific verse or a biblical theme. This category is under another group called, ‘Being a Christian.’ There you will also find other topics I have written about in the past but I will no longer update.

Combat Ready Devotional

As I write the devotional book based on the original Combat Ready, I will be posting the daily devotionals here. They won’t be in order and I won’t post all of them, just enough to tease you. If you want to read the devotional in its entirety you will have to buy the book when it’s available. This devotional is going to be a 150 day devotional and it will be focused on enriching your spiritual life. I may have some guest bloggers to a few of the devotionals as well. If you are interested let me know.

I will also put up video blogs from time to time. You will probably only see about 3 or 4 of these a year as they take me a bit longer to do. These will be military focused. You may see the military theme in some of my other blog posts too.

Seeing how my blog is called The Carpenter’s Ministry, I may sneak in some blogs related to home improvement, handyman work, or do-it-yourself projects. I don’t know when these will be coming in so please don’t hold your breath. I guess you will know when you see them, something like Jesus’ return.

Stay in touch

I like to urge all my readers to interact with me as much as possible. I want to hear your opinions, thoughts, questions, and so forth. Also, if you have a prayer request, there is a page for that too. May God bless you in your service to Him.

Any tips for a fellow minister who has written tons of material, but has trouble forming articles into chapter, chapters into books? Thanks!

    • Best thing for me was outlines. Figure out what the main point of the book is, then organize everything into chapters by topic. You can do that with sticky notes to. Write things down on them then organize them in a logical way.

Follow the link I have in my header that is title “Combat Ready” Once you get to the Amazon page you can view inside the book to see what I did for my chapters.

      Good luck!

  5. Hi David (CarpMin). Like your masthead. Welcome on board, great to have you onboard in New Zealand. Proud of your Marine Service. ~ John (appropriately on Memorial Day). 9. Jaye

Hi, Thank you for taking time today to check out my blog and for the positive feedback (with the “likes”). I really appreciate it! I very much enjoyed reading a bit of your blog and how you are living out your unique ministry calling. On another note, I also really like how well-organized your blog is (e.g., letting readers know what to expect and having a posting schedule) vs. my random postings of whatever is on my mind. I look forward to reading more about your work! Blessings, Jaye
