One month in…

Today marks 4 weeks since we moved to Redding, CA to work at a church plant. The church is a little more than 2 years old now but we (myself and 2 other pastors) were brought in to help grow the church with our various spiritual gifts. I plan on giving monthly updates on the church growth for now.

The people here in Northern California are great. They are friendly as they can be. The people at church are no different. We have a small membership but every week we have more visitors than members. That’s a good sign for sure. I have visited a few members and church guests so far with plans to visit with the rest of them soon. All of our pastors are out every day meeting and talking with people in the community.

We don’t really do many programs at our church. Instead, we do ministry wherever we are. We meet people at the park, playing basketball, at the grocery store, and so on. We do ministry intentionally. That is, we schedule a time to play basketball or take the kids to the park. We will be having a sports ministry as soon as football season starts as well. I’ll give you more updates as the months come along.

Our staff

Most of us were already friends before we came to Redding but this is the first time we really worked together. There have been a couple bumps in the road and we are still determining our specific roles in the church. We hope to have everything figured out by the end of July.

Social Media

We started our church up on social media this past month. Previously we had nothing. Now you can find us on Twitter @EpikosRedding, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube. Be sure to take some time and visit all of our pages.

Church building

Since we are a growing church we have decided to move to another facility. This new facility will be a bigger and better building that will fit the needs of our church. So, as early as Sept. 1st, we will be going to a newer, nicer facility for our worship services.

Our head pastor, Dennis Pumford, is purely a man of God. He was previously getting a monthly salary for his work at church. He has decided to cut his pay in half so the rest of the pastors can have a monthly stipend. That was such a blessing to us! We came here knowing that we won’t be getting anything from the church now we are getting a small stipend. That is a tremendous help. We are still praying for a huge financial blessing to propel our church along.

This is all for now. If you want more information about what we are doing at Epikos church please visit my Help Spread the Kingdom of God page, my Church Plant page, or our church website. We have a lot of work ahead of us and are looking forward to sharing with you. Be on the lookout for short posts until July that detail small answered prayers!
