Recently I was offered a position as an associate pastor at a church plant in Redding, CA. I would be working with several other pastors with different gifts than I have. This was exciting news for me but there was one problem: I wasn’t going to get paid! Not a stipend, no gas money, nothing.
I went to seminary to get my Master’s degree to get paid to be a minister not do it for free. I was a little upset about this for a while. That is, until I read Acts 20 where Paul explains that he deserved to be paid because of his position as Apostle but turned down the money; preferring to work to support himself and others. This made me think, What makes me deserve to be paid when Paul wasn’t paid? So my wife and I decided to keep this matter in prayer and learn what God’s will was for us.
We just returned from a trip out to Redding to see if this truly is the place for me and my wife, Lola. After months of prayer and consideration we have decided to make our move with God’s blessings. He has opened up positions for the both of us in the church and the head pastor is a humble man of God. We may also have a house waiting as soon as we get there but more updates on that later.
This is truly a faith walk for the both of us. We completely trust that God will provide work opportunities for us and we will never be without want. We have a little more than two months now to prepare to make the move. I will keep you updated with how God is blessing us and answering our prayers as we begin the fundraising.
